have just started to use film. the camera that i found in Norway has a button that has to be held down as i rewind the film. as i am total novice with analog equipment, i did not figure this out and the film broke. the result was that some light got with the film that was not intended.
GMo Food
June 29, 2008Gmo food creates some wrong bi-products.
In India women mostly take care of the seed after each years crop, for the next years crop.
Recently corporations that owned the rights to GMO seed moved in and convinced many small farmers to use their seed rather than traditional forms of production. Once a farm changes to GMO- its not possible to change back, or at least very difficult. GMO food yields are higher, yet the seed does not reproduce a fertile seed. This means that the farmer has to buy the seed for the next years crop from the corporation that owns the rights. From what i heard the prices for GMO seed went up from what it was originally sold to the farmer at (a lot), the result was that farmers were not able turn back to their old way of farming, nor could many working with the old way of farming compete with the higher yields of the GMO production.
Things got so bad for many farmers in parts of India that many of the men committed suicide, leaving the women to look after the children and the farm.
This on top of that: Now due to the high demand for bio fuel many farmers are creating food that could be eaten, yet shall be converted into fuel to drive cars.
What is the future going to be, how many meals of food per KM of driving, what of the future inequalities. What of the rain forests being chopped down to provide bio fuel. What of the rain forests that don’t exist in Europe due to the meat industry. Let the poor grow the developed worlds food and energy while they watch in starvation. Part of this information came via someone else that went to a lecture of Bandana Shiva and told me about it.
The only thing the developed world exports back to these developing places looks to be its media and brands. Is’nt that at least a little bit like 1984.

the end of the internet in sight C61
June 22, 2008Here’s some stuff to love about the new bill, C-61::
-$500 per downloaded song
-No Fair Use rights for remix culture
-$20,000 for uploading content (youtube anyone?)
wow what does c-61 mean? dealing in music is going to be like dealing in illegal drugs in Canada and i spose APRA ( Australian rights organization) is going to follow on par with this, well at least be throwing stones laced with dollars at something to make this happen.
imagine this, people could be pulled over, with the music going. “excuse me, do you have a license to play that music?” . travel to the future.
…a new machine is able to detect if the music that you listen to at home has been bought or not (like a random breath test for alcohol).
what the past did not understand, you see was this. when you digest music that has not been bought and fully paid for, your brain gives off a different signal, due to the way the hairs on your body dance. music laced with different incorporated rhythms made peoples body hairs do different things and science noticed this and found a way to capitalize on it.
people said that this machine was impossible to invent. they were wrong though, it was possible. music science people were able to train these small body hairs to move in different ways when exposed to tunes radiated at different frequencies. hipnotic unbreakable ear injected unconscious hair dance code. the whole thing came out of no-where, no-one expected it and when it arrived most of the world was put in prison.
All music that evolved out of the prisons of the future was said to be of the same source and therefor owned by that source via the crime committed, as people could not afford to listen to quality music, most went straight back to prison when released, as prison was the only place people could listen to and make music. many were put straight into prison for humming that fab song at a party without having a license to do so. free culture was outlawed, 90 percent of the worlds population was shipped off to space colonies that had not been found for braking copyright law.
The world lived happily ever after.
oil in Puntland Somalia
June 14, 2008A company from Australia called range resources controls the rights to all the minerals in Puntland . The area is not so politically stable. The share price of range resources has been as high as 5 dollars and is now 20 cents. the stock had a recent spike, range resources is doing some exploration .
“The project area covers 200,000 square kilometers with Range having exclusive exploration rights to all key hydrocarbon and mineral regions in the State of Puntland.”
Imagine that one company controls the mineral rights for one state?
Norway produce 15 percent of the worlds oil and as a result has a huge resource that the state has to manage, some say the oil is best left in the ground. from what i heard, the largest investors on the globe as of now are the sovereign funds.
Its possible that in the future a sovereign fund in Somalia could evolve out of the exploitation of its natural resources. Its horrible to think that people in a country could be poor, yet money can be invested outside the country for whatever reason.
if countries are rich from a resource like oil, could the company that finds the oil pay a percentage of what they earn via that exploitation of that resource direct to each persons, rather than to the government. companies could even issue shares to each person in the state. it would make sense to issues shares to get the community onside, that way the community has the possibility of growing with the company. why not?
This video on Youtube is worth watching. At the end of the youtube clip 1, range resources is seen giving a cheque of 250 thousand dollars for the development of an airport. i wonder how much better the airport is, and why give money for an airport, what about some income to develop the education of the people about these resources and how to manage them best. While these developing countries are need of the expertise of people from Australia to manage their resources, what of the future of those resources and distribution of that wealth.
interesting: population of Puntland is around 2.4 million people and about the same size as the Czech republic in Europe. 116 thousand square KM.
Africa oil/ a company based in Canada is spending 80 million on exploration for oil in Puntland. The US government backed a dictator from the 60’s up until the end of the cold war. At one point in Time the USSR backed Somalia, yet switched support to Ethiopia. When these super powers move their support out of these places what did they expect to happen? Oil exploration by US companies was happening in these areas up until the 90’s. Yet oil is worth a lot more today.
Puntland having a small population with a huge potential of oil, would change quickly if gas or oil is found. Yet the population of Somalia is 10 million with a GDP of 600 dollars per person. What chaos would evolve if oil was found, maybe it would be kept a secret if found…or would the oil companies have their own army to be sure of the security of their investment. more guns in a region already torn apart by war for the sake of oil. No oil might be the best source of peace.

please note, i have never been to Puntland, this information comes through exploring links on the net. To know what is really going on, i’d have to go and visit the space.
TV news
June 8, 2008i had dose of TV today, have not watched any for ages. watched mainly the news, the only news that is on all day is the CCN one. it seemed that everything everyone talked about, were things far away from anything i could have any impact on. its weird, the issues talked about seemed so big and effect so many people and so complexed, yet a couple of people with very firm opinions seemed to have the answers. how horrible to be addicted this. at least with the net i find things that flow my way.
troll
June 6, 2008interesting read
after i read i wondered if i am some weird troll.
i spose people do what they do and best let people do what they do, if i put forward an opinion and it does not agree with the way some people are doing things, i’m learning thats its best to not bother. people always have their way of doing things, if i tell someone that they could do it another way, in reality people just see end up justifying why they do what they do and take offense. things just are the way they are, it seems that the only way to build anything is with cold hard currency. yet i still don’t want to agree that that is the reality.
using cc mixter
June 3, 2008post to http://www.ccmixter.org forum
I’m very interested in doing my next release through the CCmixter, i’m a little confused though.
thoughts: I noticed that Calender girl has released her remixes on CDbaby with their digital partners. This means that the remixes are available through i-tunes and all the regular DRM stores. how are these commercial revenues going to be distributed to those that contributed to the remixes if they are not members of a rights organization. i know its only a couple of cents most likely, yet is it important to have these things sorted out within the mixter?
has ccmixter worked out a deal with CDbaby? has calender girl worked out a deal with each remixer and CC mixter? what of the commercial rights to the sounds within the mixter?
what i would like to do with my next recording i release is possibly this: i would give my songs to the CCmixter under a CC BY license. then i would like to buy the right not to have to attribute the artist and use the sounds within the recording and be able to do as i choose with the song, yet at the same time not limit the artist to release the recording they used with the song.
when a song is published through the rights organizations, the song is divided up into 2 parts. melody and words. technically a songwriter is able to release a recording and claim all publishing rights to the recording mixed on CC mixter under this system. i don’t really think this is fair, as the re-mixers have not been paid. unless the artist that is releasing the recording sets up a publishing company and distributes fairly. what is the result? would it not be best for CC mixter to have a publishing arm?
i’m keen to know how CC mixter is dealing with these issues? even when an artist puts a remix licensed with a non-commercial license on myspace, they are technically in violation of NC conditions (from some aspects). Myspace take the artists rights and gain advertising revenue.
ASCAP is the only rights organization that allows foreign artists deal with their rights as they choose. ASCAP divides royalties into 50 percent publisher and 50 percent artist.
I noticed that Calender girl is a member of member of PRS (Performing Right Society) in the UK. UK rights organizations do not allow the use of creative commons licenses.
Its possible for artists of most rights organizations to transfer their membership to ascap.
if artists that released through the mixtr commercially were asked to transfer membership to a rights organization that allowed the use of creative commons licenses, this would bring attention to the issue of artists rights.
